This piece emerged steadily and joyfully, painted during the Spring Equinox. The colors and forms reference early Spring flowers and greens.
The first title of this painting was Garden Angels, because I kept seeing angels in the paint. Eventually, the name Jardín, Spanish for “garden”, came to me — whenever titles emerge in Spanish, I feel as though my ancestors are speaking through the work. I think of my ancestors as my guardian angels, and so the title honors their presence in the field around this piece as well as in my life.
