A quiet work on paper in water-soluble media.
Painted as a response to a series of visually dense, dynamic, large-scale oil painting works, Whispers came to me as a reprieve. Working on paper forced me to work with increased tenderness and intention. Each element was added after long stretches of staring at the page. I felt patient, unhurried, and quiet inside.
I have found that each painting is a balancing of the one that came before. The painting I finished right before beginning Whispers was Una Vida Propía, which also has a soft palette, but surges, pulses, and moves more assertively. This painting emerged with less of an agenda. I also found myself thinking about my sisters a lot while painting it.
